The Highway of Life

It seems fitting to be writing about boundaries when I am a passenger riding the Coquihalla Highway through the Coastal Mountains. Not only am I bordered by enormous peaks on either side of the highway, there are also two cement barriers outlining our lane, which keep us from hitting oncoming traffic to the left, and from veering off the edge to the right.

For many people the boundaries God sets out in the Bible seem stringent, outdated, and alienating, when in reality they are entirely the opposite. Now, more than ever, is the time for believers to understand, and proclaim God’s truth and mysterious ways.

The Highway of Life
The Highway of Life

God’s boundaries for our lives are meant to protect us, and help us flourish mentally, physically and spiritually. His way alone enables us to love our creator, and our neighbor as ourself (Luke 10:27).

Throughout history humankind has tried to live outside the boundaries of God’s plan, with the prideful attitude of being more inclusive, but the harder we work at doing our own thing, the more exclusive we become, and the less love and freedom there is to experience. Without Christ we are hopelessly flawed. “Professing to be wise they became fools” (Romans 1:22 BLB).

Christ abided by his Father’s will (boundaries), and prolifically loved the broken, the blind, the poor, and the outcasts. He spoke and lived the truth, and truly loved, yet we still reject him.

Why do we think less boundaries means the more inclusive we can be? How can we possibly think THE CREATED can out think, and outdo THE CREATOR?

 But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
    the birds of the heavens, and they will tell you;
 or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;
    and the fish of the sea will declare to you.
Who among all these does not know
    that the hand of the Lord has done this?
 In his hand is the life of every living thing
    and the breath of all mankind. (Job 12:7-10)

“Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the LORD and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body And refreshment to your bones.” (Proverbs 3:7 NIV)

Your People are My People

This past Easter weekend was memorable for all the wrong reasons, and yet one phone call from a friend started the healing process, and reminded me of how powerful the spiritual bond of God’s family is.sunrise_church_198854

My family all got hit with a severe flu, and we were unable to attend a musical production, as well as our traditional Easter Service.  I was too sick to even move let alone imagine taking in the celebrations. When the dust settled, and the weekend was over – I cried, because I missed out on spending quality time with God’s family.

There are many wonderful, noteworthy organizations in our community that emulate incredible friendship, and camaraderie, but “there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother” (Prov. 18:24b NKJV). The family He is binding together in perfect unity with his love (Col 3:14) is beyond measure. He holds tightly to our right hand, we have nothing to fear (Isaiah 41:13). As the Father sent him, he is sending us (John 20:21) to share his love with the world.

This morning I awoke and began to sing out of gratitude for God’s presence and gifts in my life.

Verse 1

[clickandtweet handle=”” hashtag=”” related=”” layout=”” position=””]Your people are my people, and I am yours[/clickandtweet]

My table is with you, in your house O Lord

Your people are my people, and we are yours

Chorus

Bind us fast O Lord, for your purpose alone

Hold us tight O Lord in your arms

Send us forth O Lord, for your love to be shown

As we lift your name on high until you call us home.

Verse 2

My laughter is with you, in the house of the Lord

Your people are my people, and I am yours

My weeping is with you, in your house O Lord

Your people are my people, and we are yours

Blessed Be The Lamb

blessed be the lamb picBLESSED BE THE LAMB

“Knowing you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. For he was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.”  1 Peter 1:18-21 NASB

Although I recorded this song back in 2000, it amazes me how it continues to speak, and give direction, and hope. No matter what I face from day to day, knowing there is someone who can identify with my struggles in every way, brings me comfort. Knowing [clickandtweet handle=”” hashtag=”” related=”” layout=”” position=””]I have a friend who has triumphed over death[/clickandtweet] brings me peace and joy beyond explanation. Reading God’s Word, and learning as to how he suffered, as a gentle perfect lamb, shows me how to endure hardships on this planet. Knowing He trusted God even when forsaken, I can trust him when my circumstances look bleak. Jesus knew his stay on earth would be short, but his sacrifice would last for all eternity. He is the Blessed Lamb, and I am blessed to be his child.

BLESSED BE THE LAMB

VERSE 1

What can man do unto my soul?

What can words take away?

Lift my eyes to the cross he chose,

this man bore my shame.

CHORUS

[clickandtweet handle=”” hashtag=”” related=”” layout=”” position=””]Blessed be the Lamb who died[/clickandtweet] and spoke not a word,

silently he bore my sorrow.

Blessed be the child who cries and hopes in the Lord

Eternity is their tomorrow.

VERSE 2

How can love live among such hate?

How will I carry on?

Look to him who endured such pain,

silent and strong.

CHORUS

Lyric Typography

Recently I found a[clickandtweet handle=”” hashtag=”” related=”” layout=”” position=””] song lyric in typography form[/clickandtweet] on Pinterest, and wanted to try creating an art piece with some of my original song lyrics. Last week I posted a song called “Freedom FrFreedom From the Truth is..om the Truth is..”. My typography work is using verse two of that song. I used Adobe Photoshop 11.0, and tried to introduce my brand of pink, which I use in most of my song quote work.
